Top 5 Poutines in Halifax!

Is there anything more Canadian than poutine? Okay, maybe hockey and maple syrup, but besides those, there’s poutine. Delicious fries covered in gravy and sprinkled with cheese curds.

Here are the TOP 5 poutines in Halifax:

1. Johnny K’s Donair
Location: Pizza Corner

This hip donair spot opened during the summer on Halifamous Pizza Corner, and their poutines feature — you guessed it — donair meat.

I tried the Chicken Donair poutine, replete with donair chicken meat and a heaping dollop of donair sauce over the traditional gravy and cheese fries, and it was hands down my favourite poutine of all. The flavours combined to make an excellent lunch choice and the serving size was enormous.

2. Your Father’s Moustache
Location: 5686 Spring Garden Road, Halifax

The poutine at Your Father’s Moustache was of the traditional variety, but I added pulled pork and it was amazing! The gravy was delicious and the fries were crispy, everything you’d want in a nice poutine. If you’re out with friends watching the game, I’d definitely recommend hitting up this restaurant and ordering yourself a poutine.

3. Willy’s
Location: 5239 Blowers Street, Halifax

Of course, no poutine quest would be complete without hitting the famous Willy’s – winner of multiple Best Poutine in Halifax awards from The Coast. I decided to stick with the traditional poutine there, just to see if what they say is true (I’ve never been to Willy’s before despite the fact that I’ve been living here for just about a decade now!). I can now confirm that it’s very true…

Willy’s poutines are amazing!

4. Cheese Curds Gourmet Burgers + Poutinerie
Location: 380 Pleasant Street, Dartmouth

First things first: the word ‘poutinerie’ is probably one of my favourites, and the poutines at Cheese Curds are out of this world amazing. I tried the poutine with spiced taco beef and sour cream, with green onions sprinkled over top, while my friends tested the triple bacon and the Ukrainian pierogi poutines. All three were delicious, and the team at Cheese Curds really know what they’re doing. There are two locations in Dartmouth and their sister restaurant, Habaneros Modern Taco Bar, is also serving up delicious Mexican-inspired fare.

5. True North Diner
Location: 1658 Bedford Highway, Bedford — next to the Bedford Place Mall

Who doesn’t love a good ’50s diner? True North Diner offers up your basic diner food: hamburgers, fries, shakes and floats, and also serves a delicious traditional poutine with a great gravy and huge cheese curds. The atmosphere is also amazing.

Trust me, you’ll be craning your neck all around to see the kitschy posters on the walls, and there’s even a jukebox if you want to get your fill of Elvis or Buddy Holly.

Cutest little diner 🍟🍔🍴
