Monday, June 13, 2016 – 15:30 – Dr. Maryanne Fisher, Associate Professor of Psychology at Saint Mary’s University received a Destination Halifax Ambassador Award for her work bringing the North Eastern Evolutionary Psychology Society (NEEPS) 2016 meeting to Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Close to 125 individuals interested in the field of human behavior and evolution met in Halifax to learn about the latest developments in the field, share knowledge and pursue collaborations. The event was held at Saint Mary’s University and the Lord Nelson Hotel between June 2 and June 5, 2016.

“Maryanne had been considering the idea of hosting a NEEPS conference and after finding out Destination Halifax could assist with the planning decided to jump in feet first,” said Jeff Turner, New Business Development Manager, Sales, Destination Halifax.  “Maryanne created a well thought out conference program that provided the necessary academic talks and poster sessions, and also provided various receptions, excursions, pub crawls, etc. that offered delegates an entertaining and memorable visit to Halifax.”

NEEPS is the first regional sister organization of the Human Behavior and Evolution Society. The society is designed to facilitate interactions among scholars who study psychological questions from an evolutionary perspective.

“The delegates enjoyed the scenic perspective of Halifax, they found the people to be very warm, friendly and helpful and in general thought that Halifax was an excellent place to come visit in June,” said Maryanne Fisher.
