Along the banks of the scenic Shubenacadie Canal Waterway, there are many trails through woodlands and historical canal works. Parts of these trails form part of the Great Trail (formerly the Trans-Canada Trail), while others wind through municipal and provincial parks.
Many of these are multi-use trails and are accessible as well as easy for most everyone to hike. During the winter, these same trails offer opportunities for snowshoeing and cross-country skiing.
