Where to Find the BEST Pies in Halifax!

Do you ever play that game where you think ‘if I could only eat one thing for the rest of your life, what would you choose?’ For me, dessert is pretty much the top of the list. And while I might consider myself to be a fan of cake, I’m certainly not one to turn down a piece, or pieces, of pie.

Here are some of my favourite pies in Halifax:

1 – Coconut Cream Pie from Bluenose Diner

Diners get meals right. They usually specialize in decent booth seating, friendly staff and simple menus that include home-cooked favourites.

They’re also known for having some great pie.

The Bluenose II on 1824 Hollis St. is no different. On more than one occasion I’ve indulged in a piece of their coconut cream pie, and I’ve never been disappointed. Creamy custard, ample whipped cream – it’s just like the one your grandma makes.

@bluenoseiirestaurant (this is really a pic of baklava - looks like you'll have to hit Bluenose II to see what the coconut cream pie looks like ;))

2 – Humble Pies from Humble Pie Kitchen

It’s really no secret that I’m well past the point of simply having a sweet tooth – it’s more like a mouthful of sweet teeth. But that doesn’t mean that I don’t appreciate a savoury pie every now and then.

Humble Pie Kitchen is my go-to when I’m looking to trade my apple pies for something a little more beefy. With a wide array of pie flavours – we’re talking donair, beef stroganoff and chicken with camembert – there’s pretty much something for everyone.

3 –  Chocolate Brownie Pie from The Middle Spoon

The Middle Spoon is a bit of a dessert mecca in Halifax (they also have a lovely Bedford location!). If you’re looking for the best place to have dessert and a fancy cocktail, look no further.

Their menu is really an exercise in strategic sweet choosing, and I was torn between the chocolate brownie pie and the peanut butter pie. Luckily, my companion chose peanut butter so I got to sample both – and I’m so happy I did!

Really, there are no bad choices to be made here. Prepare yourself for a sugar rush and dive in!

4 – Chocolate Tofu Pie from the Wooden Monkey

I’m all about equality – I know that pies should be available to those with and without dietary restrictions. That’s why I’m including one of the best pies I’ve ever tried – the chocolate tofu pie from the Wooden Monkey.

The “non-dairy chocolate and organic silken tofu from Acadian Soy with an almond walnut crust” is one of the most creamy, decadent pies I’ve ever tasted – and that’s coming from someone who’s usually a fan of full fat cream and butter. End your meal with this pie, you won’t regret it.
