We’ve narrowed down 5 (of the many!) reasons to get yourself to Halifax as soon as you possibly can!
1. We’ve got history.
Halifax is old. But not in a stuffy, plastic on the furniture kind of way. This city is old in a cool, “we had the first newspaper in Canada” kind of way. Thanks to the fact that the city has been around for a while, there are some pretty fun sites to check out.
Not to be missed is the Halifax Citadel, a fortress at the centre of the city, as well as the Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21, the Discovery Centre, and the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic, which features exhibits from the sinking of the Titanic and the Halifax Explosion!
2. We’ve got beer!
That title got your attention, didn’t it? Halifax has a great craft beer community!
Halifax has a slew of unique craft brewers to choose from, including Propeller Brewery, Garrison Brewing, Good Robot Brewing Co. and Unfiltered Brewing. Enough variety to ensure no one goes thirsty!
If you’re looking for a beer that satisfies everyone, make sure to visit the historic Alexander Keith’s Brewery and get a tour from period actors.
3. You’re going to love the food.
Once you’re adequately hydrated, you need to eat. Halifax has plenty of spots to do just that. The Gahan House boasts a beautiful waterfront patio and has a great gastropub menu that has something for everyone.
If you’re looking for seafood, the Waterfront Warehouse has pretty much every option you can imagine (including an awesome tower of seafood, allowing you to try a taste of everything!). If a taste of France is what you’re after, Bistro Le Coq’s duck fat frites will be just the ticket.
4. You can get out and explore the great outdoors!
Burn off some of that delicious food by getting out and about! Looking to get out on the water? East Coast Outfitters has kayaks and more for rent. Whether you’re looking for a guided adventure, or even some paddling lessons, they’ve got you covered!
Halifax is also surrounded by some great trails that cater to a wide range of skill sets and cover a variety of terrains. Here’s a breakdown of the trails by location within the Halifax region.
5. Halifax knows how to relax.
Whether you’ve travelled to Halifax for the first time, or you’ve lived here for years, everyone needs a little downtime. Spirit Urban Spa is a full-service spa, offering everything from massages and body wraps, to manicures.
Once you’ve been pampered, head down the street to Rousseau Chocolatier for some handmade chocolates and macarons.
