The best spot to learn how to surf in Nova Scotia is just a short drive from Halifax’s urban core.
Lawrencetown Beach Provincial Park is the most well-known surf spot in the region, and there’s a good reason for that! The beach’s conditions are ideal for new surfers!

Surfing is a great way to support our local economy and have fun while doing it.
You’ll find plenty of locally owned businesses to rent or purchase surf boards and gear, take individual or group lessons.

3 – Surfing is for any age!
Surfing is not a sport exclusive to the young and athletic! In Halifax, surfing is enjoyed by people of all ages and is not an activity that needs to be learned as a child.
You’re never too old or young (okay – yes you can be too young; the minimum age limit is 5 years old for some surf schools in the region) to enjoy riding waves.

Thanks to organizations like the Surfing Association of Nova Scotia, surfing in the Halifax continues to grow and support a fun and respectful surf community.

5 – There are waves for everyone
As a learner, it’s best to plan your surf trip or lesson when the days are longer and the weather and water are warmer. The summer months (May to September) are the best time to learn how to surf in Halifax.
Along with warmer temperatures, summer in Halifax brings small-to-medium sized waves. Winter waves are big and chilly, and should be reserved for those with more experience!
