Halifax Stanfield International Airport is a transit hub linking Atlantic Canada to the world. Despite its compact size, this award-winning airport welcomed more than 3 million passengers to Halifax last year, Surprised? Here are five more facts you might not know about the Halifax airport:


1 – When travelers need a hand, the Tartan Team is ready to help!

Dressed in vests made of Nova Scotia tartan, these volunteers patrol the airport offering information on the airport and the city. VERY East Coast indeed 😉


2 – In 2014, the Halifax Stanfield International Airport was rated among the best airports in the world.

For airports under 5 million passengers, it received the ranking of 3rd Best Airport in the World. The airport was also named the 7th Best Domestic Airport in the World, the only Canadian Airport in the Top 10 in this category!


3 – The Halifax Stanfield International Airport played a role in the aftermath of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

Halifax Stanfield supported passengers displaced by the terrorist attacks on September 11th, 2001 s part of Operation Yellow Ribbon. As a result, over 7,000 passengers arrived at the airport on diverted flights.


4 – Who doesn’t like smaller lines and shorter wait times?

Helping to enhance the check-in experience, the Halifax Stanfield International Airport was the first location in North America to introduce self-baggage drop for all passengers.
